Description
It was at Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo that the pioneering study for monovarietal planting in the Douro region took place. Between 1979 and 1981, in collaboration with the Portuguese Ministry of Agriculture, through the Douro Wine Studies Center, the best sun exposures were chosen at Quinta Nova for research into the planting of three grape varieties: Tinta Roriz, Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca.
Parcel 29, dedicated to the Touriga Nacional grape variety, is made up of 3300 feet and has a slope of 20 degrees, located at an altitude between 170 and 205 meters. This parcel represents a unique example and plays a fundamental role in the history of Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo, fully expressing the terroir. It is a true reference in the Douro which, together with the century-old vineyard in Parcela 21, results in a wine with an extremely elegant, almost feminine character, which contrasts with an intense structure of juicy and precise tannins. The schist texture, high concentration, sapid profile and purple color remarkably reflect the nature of the Touriga Nacional grape variety.
