L'histoire de ce Vin de Porto remonte à la vendange de 1867 à la Quinta das Carvalhas, l'une des propriétés les plus proéminentes de l'Alto Douro qui se distingue dans le paysage durien par sa beauté et la spectacularité de ses vignes. Il s'agit véritablement d'une mémoire vivante et recouverte du XIXe siècle préservée dans le temps avec un soin méticuleux et presque une dévotion religieuse, initialement dans les caves de la réputée entreprise Miguel Souza Guedes, et plus tard, au milieu du XXe siècle, par incorporation de cette entreprise, laissée aux soins des générations successives de maîtres de cave de la Real Companhia Velha. Ce Vin de Porto a poursuivi son long et patient vieillissement dans les somptueuses caves de Vila Nova de Gaia, dans des fûts en bois de chêne des plus nobles, jusqu'à atteindre la perfection, se distinguant par une somptuosité aromatique et une dimension de dégustation inoubliable. Après 149 ans de maturation et lors de l'année des célébrations des 260 ans de la fondation de cette Compagnie Pombalina, le destin de ce vin se croise ainsi avec l'histoire de l'entreprise de Vin de Porto la plus emblématique – La Real Companhia Velha – dont l'héritage se confond avec l'histoire même du Vin de Porto.
