La segunda generación de la familia Niepoort, a finales del siglo XIX, tuvo la feliz idea de adquirir a una vidriera alemana de Oldenburg alrededor de 4000 garrafones soplados, de vidrio verde oscuro, de capacidades variadas entre 8 y 11 litros, a los que hoy llamamos “demijohns”. El hijo de Eduard Niepoort, Eduard Marius van der Niepoort, abuelo de Dirk, dio destino a los demijohns y embotelló los mejores vinos de la cosecha de 1931, creando así el tipo “Garrafeira Niepoort”. Desde el lejano año de 1931 hasta nuestros días, la maduración en los demijohns sellados con corcho es vigilada atentamente, siendo un ritual casi “sagrado” para las familias Niepoort y Nogueira. Garrafeira no es solo un vino, también significa calidad muy por encima de los cánones tradicionales. El Porto Garrafeira es un estilo de Porto único y muy especial. En la cata, se revela una enorme mezcla de sensaciones, aromas y sabores con un perfecto equilibrio entre juventud y experiencia, entre la novedad de la fruta y la «buena vejez» que solo los largos años de crianza pueden conferir.

Color cereza oscuro, comenzando a revelar tonalidad ámbar.
Fresco y vibrante en boca, con un hermoso equilibrio entre dulzura y acidez. Notas de frutos silvestres delicados y un final largo y suave.
Ligeramente afrutado en nariz, como resultado de solo 4 años en barrica antes de ser transferido a damajuanas. Manifiesta las fases iniciales de maduración en botella, con notas de tabaco y frutas cristalizadas delicadas.
