A Quinta do Vesúvio está localizada no Douro Superior, a mais quente e seca das sub-regiões da demarcação do Douro com apenas 470mm de precipitação anual. A grande escala da propriedade (326 hectares) e a orografia montanhosa, resultam em orientações variadas, com predominância de norte e noroeste, uma vez que se situa na margem esquerda (sul) do Rio Douro.A vinha está disposta em cotas variadas, que vão desde os 110 aos 500 metros acima do nível do mar. Estas duas variáveis — exposição e altitude — constituem importantes caraterísticas do terroir da propriedade e, no seu conjunto, resguardam a vinha de calor excessivo.As vinhas maduras, nomeadamente da seção do Vale Da Teja na propriedade, datam da década de 1970 e dão um contributo vital aos vinhos nos anos que apresentam maiores desafios. Estas vinhas têm sistemas radiculares bem desenvolvidos o que lhes permite aceder às reservas de água alojadas no subsolo, dando-lhes assim a imprescindível sustentação nos meses quentes do verão.
