Secondo Gaspar Frutuoso nel suo libro "Saudades da Terra", la Malvasia Cândida fu la prima varietà ad essere piantata sull'isola di Madeira e arrivò a Fajã dos Padres attraverso i Padri Gesuiti, nella seconda metà del XVI secolo. Il vino Malvasia Cândida prodotto in quella proprietà divenne presto il più ricercato e ambito tra tutti. Attualmente Fajã dos Padres è un agriturismo dalle caratteristiche uniche, dove, oltre ai vigneti, si produce un'ampia varietà di frutta tropicale, verdura e fiori. Nel novembre del 1921, Fajã dos Padres fu acquistata dalla famiglia Vilhena de Mendonça che, per celebrare il primo centenario di proprietà della proprietà, decise di imbottigliare queste 531 bottiglie di Malvasia Cândida 1996. Questo vino invecchiato per 25 anni nella cantina della proprietà, situato vicino al mare, ed è ora il quarto imbottigliamento effettuato da Vinhos Barbeito dal 2012.
