La seconda generazione della famiglia Niepoort, alla fine del XIX secolo, ebbe la felice idea di acquistare da un vetraio tedesco di Oldenburg circa 4000 damigiane soffiati, di vetro verde scuro, di capacità variabili tra 8 e 11 litri, che oggi chiamiamo "damigiane". Il figlio di Eduard Niepoort, Eduard Marius van der Niepoort, nonno di Dirk, diede destinazione alle damigiane e imbottigliò i migliori vini della vendemmia del 1931, creando così il tipo "Garrafeira Niepoort". Dal lontano anno 1931 fino ai giorni nostri, la maturazione nelle damigiane sigillate con tappo di sughero è attentamente monitorata, essendo un rituale quasi "sacro" per le famiglie Niepoort e Nogueira. Garrafeira non è solo un vino, significa anche qualità molto al di sopra dei canoni tradizionali. Il Porto Garrafeira è uno stile di Porto unico e molto speciale. Alla degustazione, si rivela una enorme miscela di sensazioni, aromi e sapori con un perfetto equilibrio tra giovinezza ed esperienza, tra la novità della frutta e la "buona vecchiaia" che solo i lunghi anni di invecchiamento possono conferire.

Fresco e vibrante in bocca, con un bel equilibrio tra dolcezza e acidità. Note di frutti di bosco delicati e un finale lungo e morbido.
Leggermente fruttato al naso, a causa di soli 4 anni in botti prima di essere trasferito in demijohn. Manifesta le fasi iniziali di maturazione in bottiglia, con note di tabacco e delicati frutti cristallizzati.
