È stata alla Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo che si è svolto il primo studio per la piantagione monovarietale nella regione del Douro. Tra il 1979 e il 1981, insieme al Ministero dell'Agricoltura portoghese, attraverso il Centro di Studi Vitivinicoli del Douro, sono state scelte alla Quinta Nova le migliori esposizioni solari per lo studio della piantagione di tre vitigni: Tinta Roriz, Touriga Nacional e Touriga Franca. La Parcella 28 della Quinta Nova, piantata con il vitigno Tinta Roriz, composta da 2650 ceppi e con una pendenza del 25%, si trova a un'altitudine tra i 205 e i 210 metri. Questo vitigno dimostra bene la sfida vitivinicola e la persistenza umana nel preservare un Douro antico e autentico. L'austerità del vitigno è evidente al palato, ma allo stesso tempo, siamo sedotti da una sofisticazione alquanto contemporanea che, unita alla vigna centenaria (Parcella 21), genera un lotto che rappresenta un Riferimento nel Douro portoghese, un vino pieno di mineralità, frutti blu, ricco di note speziate con una struttura ferma e un palato ben stretto. L'elevata concentrazione, la densità e la profondità esprimono bene la sua origine. Produzione: 3900 bottiglie.
