Un vigneto si avvicina agli 80 anni di età, con diversi difetti derivanti dal parziale abbandono durato alcuni anni. In una zona di intensa esposizione e con enormi affioramenti di scisto in superficie dove non rimane una sola erba. Gli abitanti di Quinta lo soprannominarono subito “Vinha do Abandonado”. Per anni si è cercato di recuperare il vigneto e di reimpiantare le viti mancanti. Fino a quando non si sono arresi. Nonostante tutte le cure, solo i ceppi più vecchi sono riusciti a sopravvivere in condizioni così estreme. Nel 2004 hanno deciso di isolarlo per la prima volta nella cantina Quinta da Gaivosa. Ha rivelato subito una personalità e un carattere unici. Hanno deciso di imbottigliarlo in onore degli altrettanto unici vecchi vitigni del Douro, che un giorno scompariranno. Oggi festeggiamo!

Bocca piena di armonia, con intensità ma anche delicatezza, mineralità e una straordinaria purezza di frutto. Puoi sentire lo scisto del terreno, il bosco circostante, la freschezza dell'altitudine, in una pura espressione della natura del vigneto.
Grande complessità e freschezza aromatica, con insolite note balsamiche e catramose, liquirizia e frutti neri, tipiche del vigneto Abandonado.
