Nel panorama enologico nazionale, non esiste produttore più consensuale di Niepoort e la lunga storia inizia nel 1842 con il primo Van Der Niepoort ad arrivare in Portogallo. Quando iniziò come commerciante nel mercato del vino di Porto, stabilì rapidamente la sua attività, che si sarebbe rivelata prospera e futura. Così, nella 5a generazione, nasce Dirk Niepoort, produttore imprescindibile nel mondo del vino, riconosciuto come uno dei personaggi più importanti che ha lavorato, e lavora, a favore del vino portoghese. Ha collaborato con diverse decine di produttori, li ha aiutati a migliorare i loro vini e a comprendere i loro vigneti, preparando anche la sua eredità con coloro che creano sempre vini irriverenti. Oggi Dirk Niepoort collabora a molti altri progetti, praticamente in tutte le regioni vinicole nazionali e in alcune estere.
