È stato a Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo che ha avuto luogo lo studio pionieristico sulla piantagione monovarietale nella regione del Douro. Tra il 1979 e il 1981, in collaborazione con il Ministero dell'Agricoltura portoghese, attraverso il Centro Studi sul Vino del Douro, sono state scelte le migliori esposizioni solari a Quinta Nova per la ricerca sulla piantagione di tre vitigni: Tinta Roriz, Touriga Nacional e Touriga Franca.
La parcella 29, dedicata al vitigno Touriga Nacional, è composta da 3300 piedi e ha una pendenza di 20 gradi, situata ad un'altitudine compresa tra 170 e 205 metri. Questa parcella rappresenta un esempio unico e gioca un ruolo fondamentale nella storia di Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo, esprimendone appieno il terroir. È un vero riferimento nel Douro che, insieme al vigneto centenario della Parcela 21, dà vita a un vino dal carattere estremamente elegante, quasi femminile, che contrasta con una struttura intensa di tannini succosi e precisi. La consistenza scistosa, l'alta concentrazione, il profilo sapido e il colore viola riflettono notevolmente la natura del vitigno Touriga Nacional.
