La storia di questo Vino di Porto risale alla vendemmia del 1867 nella Quinta das Carvalhas, una delle proprietà più importanti dell'Alto Douro che si distingue nel paesaggio duriense per la sua bellezza e per la spettacolarità delle sue vigne. Si tratta, veramente, di un ricordo vivo e recondito del XIX secolo preservato nel tempo con meticolosa cura e quasi religiosa devozione, inizialmente nelle cantine della rinomata azienda Miguel Souza Guedes, e più tardi, a metà del XX secolo, per incorporazione di questa azienda, lasciata alle cure delle successive generazioni di maestri di cantina della Real Companhia Velha. Questo Vino di Porto ha proseguito il suo lungo e paziente invecchiamento nelle sontuose cantine di Vila Nova de Gaia, in botti della più nobile legno di quercia, fino a raggiungere la perfezione, evidenziando una sontuosità aromatica e una dimensione di assaggio indimenticabile. Dopo 149 anni di affinamento e nell'anno delle celebrazioni dei 260 anni dalla fondazione di questa Compagnia Pombalina, il destino di questo vino si incrocia così con la storia della più emblematica azienda di Vino di Porto – La Real Companhia Velha – il cui lascito si confonde con la stessa storia del Vino di Porto.

Fino e ricco in bocca, la texture è di puro velluto, glicerina, grasso, ma senza appesantire, la nobiltà di carattere viene in superficie.
