Una viña que supera los 80 años de edad, con varias fallas derivadas de un abandono parcial durante algunos años. En una zona de intensa exposición y con enormes afloramientos de pizarra en la superficie donde ni una sola hierba subsiste. La gente de la Quinta pronto la apodó "Viña del Abandonado". Durante años intentamos recuperar la viña y replantar las vides desaparecidas. Hasta que nos rendimos. A pesar de todo nuestro cuidado, solo las cepas más viejas eran capaces de subsistir en condiciones tan extremas. En 2004 decidimos aislarla por primera vez en la bodega de la Quinta da Gaivosa. Reveló inmediatamente una personalidad y carácter únicos. Decidimos embotellarlo en homenaje a las igualmente únicas viñas viejas del Douro, que un día desaparecerán. Hoy las celebramos.

En boca, el resultado es un vino muy bien estructurado, jugoso y profundo, combinado con una hermosa frescura y taninos firmes.
Los aromas de frutas maduras incluyen cerezas oscuras, moras, chocolate amargo, regaliz, eucalipto, especias exóticas, notas balsámicas y detalles minerales.
