Las uvas que dieron origen a este vino proceden de viñas muy viejas situadas en pequeños valles de la subregión de Cima Corgo, habitada por la bella Poupa. Las prácticas culturales de la época recomendaban una alta densidad, obligando así a las raíces a explorar horizontes profundos. Esta práctica, unida a la edad de las cepas, provoca una baja producción.
