Fue en Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo donde se llevó a cabo el estudio pionero de plantación monovarietal en la región del Duero. Entre 1979 y 1981, en colaboración con el Ministerio de Agricultura portugués, a través del Centro de Estudios Vitivinícolas del Duero, se eligieron en Quinta Nova las mejores exposiciones solares para investigar la plantación de tres variedades de uva: Tinta Roriz, Touriga Nacional y Touriga Franca.
La parcela 29, dedicada a la variedad de uva Touriga Nacional, está compuesta por 3.300 pies y tiene una pendiente de 20 grados, ubicada a una altitud entre 170 y 205 metros. Esta parcela representa un ejemplo único y juega un papel fundamental en la historia de Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo, expresando plenamente el terruño. Se trata de un auténtico referente en el Duero que, junto con el viñedo centenario de Parcela 21, da como resultado un vino de carácter sumamente elegante, casi femenino, que contrasta con una intensa estructura de taninos jugosos y precisos. La textura de esquisto, la alta concentración, el perfil sápido y el color púrpura reflejan notablemente la naturaleza de la variedad de uva Touriga Nacional.
