Una viña que está a punto de cumplir 80 años, con varias deficiencias derivadas de un abandono parcial durante algunos años. En una zona de intensa exposición y con enormes afloramientos de esquisto en la superficie donde ni una sola hierba sobrevive. La gente de la Quinta pronto la apodó "Viña del Abandonado". Durante años intentaron recuperar la viña y replantar las vides desaparecidas. Hasta que desistieron. A pesar de todo el cuidado, solo las cepas más viejas eran capaces de subsistir en condiciones tan extremas. En 2004 decidieron aislarla por primera vez en la bodega de la Quinta da Gaivosa. Reveló inmediatamente una personalidad y carácter únicos. Decidieron embotellarlo en homenaje a las igualmente únicas viñas viejas del Douro, que algún día desaparecerán. ¡Hoy celebramos!

Boca llena de armonía, con intensidad pero también delicadeza, mineralidad y una extraordinaria pureza de la fruta. Se siente el esquisto de los suelos, el bosque circundante, la frescura de la altitud, en una pura expresión de la naturaleza de la viña.
Gran complejidad y frescura aromática, con inusuales notas balsámicas y de alquitrán, regaliz y frutos negros, típicas de la viña del Abandonado.
