The Quinta da Roêda is one of the best properties in the Douro. The property, located in Pinhão, was acquired by Croft in 1889 and extensively renovated throughout the first half of the 20th century. The rich and aromatic wines of Roêda, with their character of voluminous fruit, form the basis of Croft's Vintage blend and are the cornerstone of the house's style. The spotlight remains on the soft and opulent fruit that re-emerges on the palate and lingers until the final stretch. Although the palate is round and light and the tannins are velvety and discreet, the fresh acidity gives the wine firmness and vigor.
"On the nose, the fruit is ripe and juicy, with aromas of cherry and strawberry combining with notes of blackberry and blackcurrant, but with plenty of freshness to balance the opulence of the fruit. The exotic, resinous, and herbaceous character typical of Roêda, with notes of eucalyptus and mint, is clearly evident, and there is also an attractive perfumed dimension with notes of dried rose petals and cedar wood."
