One vineyard is approaching 80 years of age, with several flaws resulting from partial abandonment for a few years. In an area of intense exposure and with huge shale outcrops on the surface where not a single herb remains. The people of Quinta quickly nicknamed it “Vinha do Abandonado”. For years they tried to recover the vineyard and replant the missing vines. Until they gave up. Despite all the care, only the oldest strains were able to survive in such extreme conditions. In 2004 they decided to isolate it for the first time in the Quinta da Gaivosa winery. He immediately revealed a unique personality and character. They decided to bottle it in honor of the equally unique old Douro vines, which will one day disappear. Today we celebrate!
Deep ruby color
Mouth full of harmony, with intensity but also delicacy, minerality and an extraordinary purity of fruit. You can feel the schist soil, the surrounding forest, the freshness of the altitude, in a pure expression of the nature of the vineyard.
Great complexity and aromatic freshness, with unusual balsamic and tar notes, licorice and black fruits, typical of the Abandonado vineyard.
