Description
Our Vintage Ports are produced by Nature. When we think of nature, we think of all the ways it dazzles our senses. Nature is living, mobile and reproductive. Our nature is to create wines that show the life and soul of a place and a wine. We intend to see it alive in a bottle. The idea of bottling what nature created is what makes winemaking so exciting.
This special 400th anniversary edition is a celebration of our family's work with Douro wines for 400 years, but also of Vintage Port and the greatness of the wines that the Douro Valley can create. Van Zellers & Co Vintage Porto is made with the best native grape varieties from our old vineyards. All grapes are trodden by foot and fermented in granite stone lagares. It ages in large vats made of very old wood for 18 to 24 months before bottling without fining or filtration, on the date indicated on the label. The result is a dark red wine, full-bodied and with great structure, with very intense aromas of red fruits. It will age for many years. Since Port is a natural wine, it will deposit sediment in the bottle after some aging. It should therefore be carefully decanted before serving at 16°C and accompanied with chocolate or stilton cheese desserts.
