Quinta de la Rosa Red Wine Production 2020: It was a dry year, too hot for Europe and the same for Portugal. Forest fires ravaged the countryside as everything was dry. Vineyards planted at low altitude and with southern exposure were those that suffered the most, with white vineyards being located at altitude and not being affected. The weather forecasts did not indicate rain - the last time it had rained was in the last week of June. A week later, temperatures dropped and promoted a more balanced phenolic maturation, better aromas and greater complexity of flavors. The old high-altitude vines with northern exposure, given the temperature range and which are normally harvested later, achieved excellent quality. Alcohol levels tended to be higher and acidity lower than normal, without, however, great evidence of overripeness. It was a year in which it was possible to have almost all the varieties ready to harvest at the same time, which led to a logistical challenge and an increase in the volume of work in both wineries. Once again, winemaker Jorge Moreira was in charge of evaluating the ideal maturation and definition of cutting time.
