In the 9th century, rum became a quality and valued drink. Distilleries and brands emerged with the support of the Spanish crown. Cuba was the birthplace of rum. Cuba also produces a lighter and fresher rum than in other parts of the Caribbean, thanks to a request from the Spanish Crown, which preferred its spirits to have a delicate flavor. The rum Conde de Cuba is harvested, distilled, aged, and bottled in a small town with no more than 2,000 inhabitants in the province of Las Tunas, in Amancio Rodriguez, in the southeast of Cuba, a land whose climate is ideal for the cultivation of 100% native "medialuna" sugarcane.
