Description
According to Gaspar Frutuoso in his book "Saudades da Terra", Malvasia Cândida was the first variety to be planted on Madeira Island and arrived in Fajã dos Padres through the Jesuit Fathers, in the second half of the 16th century. The Malvasia Cândida wine produced on that property soon became the most sought after and coveted among all. Currently, Fajã dos Padres is an agritourism operation with unique characteristics, where, in addition to the vineyards, a wide variety of tropical fruits, vegetables and flowers are produced. In November 1921, Fajã dos Padres was acquired by the Vilhena de Mendonça family who, to celebrate the first centenary of ownership of the property, decided to bottle these 531 bottles of Malvasia Cândida 1996. This wine aged for 25 years in the property's cellar, located next to the sea, and is now the fourth bottling made by Vinhos Barbeito since 2012.
