Les vins Marqués de Riscal Reserva sont élaborés principalement à partir de raisins de vignes de tempranillo plantées avant les années 70, cultivées dans les meilleurs sols argilo-calcaires de la Rioja Alavesa. Ce cépage supporte bien le vieillissement en fût et en bouteille, grâce à son bon équilibre entre acidité et tanins fins. Le cépage Graciano, dont la présence dans l'assemblage n'excède pas 10%, apporte fraîcheur et vivacité à la couleur. La fermentation se déroule à une température contrôlée et le temps de macération ne dépasse jamais 12 jours. Les réserves de Riscal passent environ deux ans en fûts de chêne américain, produisant un vin qui correspond au style classique de la Rioja : frais, fin, élégant et très adapté au vieillissement prolongé. Avant d'être mis en vente, le vin passe au minimum un an à mûrir en bouteille ; un temps suffisant pour montrer toute la complexité que le tempranillo peut atteindre.

Couleur intense de cerise noire, avec une bonne profondeur de couleur.
Frais et facile à boire en bouche, avec une bonne structure et des tanins doux et soyeux. La finale longue et persistante laisse de douces souvenirs balsamiques de la plus haute qualité.
Des arômes très expressifs au nez, avec des notes de réglisse, de cannelle et de poivre noir, avec juste une légère touche du long vieillissement en fût, grâce à sa grande complexité et à ses fruits mûrs concentrés.
