The name of the Capela do Vesúvio is inspired by the beautiful chapel of the property and the neighboring vineyard of the same name. The Vinha da Capela was one of the first to be replanted after the phylloxera plague in the late 19th century, and only four terraces of this original parcel remain. The Vinha da Capela — the first component of this lot — is made up of mixed varietal vines that are about 100 years old, which have been successively retrained using original canes to preserve their unique characteristics. The second component is the Vinha da Escola, at the base of the central valley, in a sheltered spot with water accumulation, flanked by steep slopes that provide desirable shade during the scorching summer months. The third component comes from the Touriga Franca plantings, which are half a century old, in the Vale da Teja. With well-developed roots that reach deep into the soil for water, these vines are well adapted to the heat and drought conditions at Quinta do Vesúvio.

It is compact and voluminous with grainy and spicy tannins and a powerful, tense structure. It has great intensity and freshness and a long finish with notes of tea and tobacco.
The Capela do Vesúvio has aromas of schist dust with notes of rosemary and rockrose that particularly evoke the central valley of Vesuvius, where one of the vineyards that make up this lot is located – the Vinha da Escola.
