Domingos Soares Franco decided it was time to take Moscatel de Setúbal to the next level. He then began 5 years of trials in which, using grapes from the same vineyard, he made wine with 4 different types of spirits: a neutral one, another originating from the Cognac region, another originating from the Armagnac region, and a fourth batch with 50% of the latter spirits. After 5 years of tasting, the Armagnac prevailed for its subtlety, freshness, complexity, and harmony.
