Production of Quinta de la Rosa Red Wine: It was a dry year, too hot for Europe and the same for Portugal. Wildfires devastated the countryside, as everything was dry. Vineyards planted at low altitude and with southern exposure were the most affected, while the white grape vineyards, located at higher altitude, were not affected. Weather forecasts did not indicate rain - the last time it rained was in the last week of June. A week later, temperatures dropped and promoted a more balanced phenolic ripening, better aromas, and greater complexity of flavors. The old high-altitude vineyards with northern exposure, given the thermal amplitude and that they are usually harvested later, reached excellent quality. Alcohol levels tended to be higher and acidity lower than usual, although there was no strong evidence of over-ripeness. It was a year that allowed almost all varieties to be ready for harvest at the same time, which led to a logistical challenge and increased workload in both wineries. Once again, the winemaker Jorge Moreira was responsible for evaluating the ideal ripeness and determining the harvest time.
