Tasted blind, the Petrus 2012 demonstrated a fruit-oriented bouquet of ripe raspberry and wild strawberry, beneath which are aromas of graphite and forest floor. It looks refined, discreet and even indifferent. The palate is medium-bodied with a slightly savory opening, as if there was a small drop of Cabernet Franc. The tannins are fine but firm, the red fruits are infused with cooked meat, black pepper and notes of sage, although I was expecting a fuller-bodied finish. This may well evolve over time, but it remains a majestic Pomerol that will probably deserve a higher score with bottle aging, hence the plus sign in the score.
