The José de Sousa Rosado Fernandes Winery has existed since 1878 and was acquired by José Maria da Fonseca in 1986, fulfilling the long-held dream of producing wine in the Alentejo, on an estate rich in prestige and history. Located in Reguengos de Monsaraz, it is here that a tradition begun by the Romans over 2000 years ago remains alive. The José de Sousa winery has 114 clay amphorae, where an ancient fermentation method is carried out. The José de Sousa Winery is characterized by the blend of innovation and tradition, being one of the most prestigious and emblematic wineries in our Alentejo. Within it, some ancestral winemaking techniques, started by the Romans more than 2000 years ago, are kept alive, as well as the use of the latest technologies, essential for crafting exceptional wines. From this union comes José de Sousa Reserva, produced from the Grand Noir, Aragonez, and Syrah grape varieties. In the making of this wine, part of the grapes is fermented in clay amphorae, another part in stone troughs, and another in stainless steel vats. Afterwards, José de Sousa Reserva ages for eight months in new French and American oak barrels.
