The Quinta das Carvalhas is a property of great beauty and spectacularity, with a predominant position on the slope of the left bank of the Douro River in Pinhão, extending along the slopes of the right bank of the tributary Rio Torto. The oldest written references about the Quinta date back to 1759. Port winemaking Quinta das Carvalhas Vintage 2011: only perfectly ripe grapes are harvested, repeating the operation throughout the harvest period. Once harvested, they are transported to the winery in small boxes, starting the ancestral process of foot treading in traditional granite lagares, which, due to their shape, allow perfect contact between the must and the skins, permitting greater extraction. Fermentation is interrupted by the addition of grape spirit, followed by aging in oak barrels for a period of 2 years.
