Die Weine Marqués de Riscal Reserva werden hauptsächlich aus Trauben von vor den 70er Jahren gepflanzten Tempranillo-Reben hergestellt, die in den besten ton- und kalkhaltigen Böden der Rioja Alavesa kultiviert werden. Diese Rebsorte eignet sich gut für die Reifung in Fässern und in Flaschen, dank ihres guten Gleichgewichts zwischen Säure und feinen Tanninen. Die Rebsorte Graciano, deren Anteil im Cuvée 10 % nicht überschreitet, bringt Frische und Lebhaftigkeit in die Farbe. Die Fermentation erfolgt bei kontrollierter Temperatur und die Mazerationszeit überschreitet niemals 12 Tage. Die Reservas von Riscal verbringen etwa zwei Jahre in amerikanischen Eichenfässern, was einen Wein hervorbringt, der dem klassischen Stil von Rioja entspricht: frisch, fein, elegant und sehr gut für eine längere Reifung geeignet. Bevor der Wein zum Verkauf angeboten wird, reift er mindestens ein Jahr in der Flasche; genug Zeit, um die gesamte Komplexität zu zeigen, die der Tempranillo erreichen kann.
