Der Vinho Vertente Tinto ist ein Wein von großer Eleganz und Komplexität, der auf meisterhafte Weise die Frucht und Konzentration der Weine aus dem Douro mit der Frische der Weine von Niepoort verbindet. Die Trauben für den Vertente stammen von alten Weinbergen, die über 60 Jahre alt sind, an der rechten Uferseite des Douro und von einem kleinen Teil von Weinbergen, die etwa 30 Jahre alt sind und im Tal des Rio Tedo in der Quinta de Nápoles gepflanzt wurden.

Im Mund hat er Kraft und Nerv, ist komplex und hat eine gute Struktur. Er ist jedoch fein und elegant. Sehr gut integrierte Tannine, mit guter Säure, die ihm einen langen und sehr angenehmen Abgang verleiht.
Das Aroma zeigt sich jung, reich und komplex mit Noten von schwarzem Pfeffer, kombiniert mit roten und wilden Früchten, wobei Pflaume und Kirsche hervortreten. Das Holz ist gut integriert mit einigen rauchigen Noten. Es zeigt auch mineralische Aromen von nassem Stein.
