Laut Gaspar Frutuoso in seinem Buch „Saudades da Terra“ war Malvasia Cândida die erste Sorte, die auf der Insel Madeira gepflanzt wurde und in der zweiten Hälfte des 16. Jahrhunderts durch die Jesuitenpatres nach Fajã dos Padres gelangte. Der auf diesem Anwesen produzierte Malvasia Cândida-Wein wurde bald zum gefragtesten und begehrtesten unter allen. Derzeit ist Fajã dos Padres ein Agrotourismusbetrieb mit einzigartigen Eigenschaften, in dem zusätzlich zu den Weinbergen eine große Vielfalt an tropischen Früchten, Gemüse und Blumen angebaut wird. Im November 1921 wurde Fajã dos Padres von der Familie Vilhena de Mendonça erworben, die anlässlich des 100-jährigen Bestehens des Anwesens beschloss, diese 531 Flaschen Malvasia Cândida 1996 in Flaschen abzufüllen. Dieser Wein reifte 25 Jahre lang im Keller des Anwesens. direkt am Meer gelegen und ist mittlerweile die vierte Abfüllung von Vinhos Barbeito seit 2012.
