O Adelaide Tinto 2016 ist ein Wein, der aus einem sehr alten Weinberg stammt, aus dem nicht mehr als 400 Gramm Früchte pro Pflanze gewonnen werden. Ein jahrhundertealter Weinberg, der an einem schwer zugänglichen Hang eines Nebenflusses des Douro gewachsen ist, mit einer großen Vielfalt an Rebsorten, wie sie früher gepflanzt wurden. Das Ergebnis ist ein Wein, der so selten, so einzigartig und so erhaben ist wie Dona Antónia Adelaide Ferreira. Und dann gibt es das Ritual der Entscheidung. Als Hommage an die Urgroßmutter der heutigen Verantwortlichen der Quinta, João Ferreira Alvares Ribeiro, Francisco Ferreira und Francisco Olazabal, wird der Wein nur dann veröffentlicht, wenn die drei Ururenkel einstimmig zustimmen. Das Kriterium ist einfach. Hat er genügend Konzentration? Ist er komplex, frisch, mit seidigen Tanninen? Wird er ein langes Leben von Jahrzehnten haben? Wird er ein Grand Vin sein? Wenn alle einverstanden sind, gibt es Adelaide. Aber schon eine Meinungsverschiedenheit, ein Dissens, ein Missmut, kann dazu führen, dass der Wein ein anderes Schicksal hat: den Keller, wo er darauf warten wird, dass die Zeit ihm die gewünschte Komplexität bringt — eine Komplexität, die weit entfernt von den Moden der Gegenwart ist — oder eine andere, weniger edle Taufe.
