Sein Name ist inspiriert von den Kartäusermönchen, die seit 1598 ein zurückgezogenes Leben des Gebets im Kartäuserkloster in Évora führen, das Eigentum der Fundação Eugénio de Almeida ist. Um eine der traditionellen Methoden der Weinherstellung in der Adega Cartuxa, gelegen auf der Quinta de Valbom, wo seit über zwei Jahrhunderten Qualitätsweine produziert werden, wieder aufleben zu lassen, präsentiert die Fundação Eugénio de Almeida diesen Rotwein, der in alten Tonamphoren hergestellt wird.
