Nikka Coffey Grain Whiskey is an original single grain whiskey, mainly distilled from corn, in a Coffey still. It becomes even more unique in the sense that it contains mostly corn, as in the past, while most modern whiskeys are derived from wheat. Corn gives the whiskey a rich, rounded texture and intense aromas. This grain whiskey is today an essential component of Nikka blends. The distillation process is continuous, while the stills used to produce Single Malts require two separate distillations. Nikka has two Coffey stills at its Miyagikyo distillery for the production of its grain whiskeys. Imported from Scotland in 1963, these ancient stills produce very round spirits, with a distinctive character that defines Nikka signature blends.
Nice golden
Juicy and pleasant, what promises on the nose is found on the palate. Intense ripe fruit with notes of rum, banana and caramel. Complexity develops in notes of licorice and star anise. Over time it develops aromas of ripe pear and the aftertaste results in a bittersweet combination with bourbon-vanilla providing a slight acidity.
Fresh and seductive, it reveals ripe pear, cherry and exotic fruit aromas. Citrus notes of grapefruit and lemon emerge, slowly giving way to more subtle floral aromas. After breathing, the aromas of pastries, coconut and bourboun-vanilla stand out, with underlying notes of mint and a hint of musk.
