Foi na Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo que decorreu o primeiro estudo para a plantação monovarietal na região do Douro. Entre 1979 e 1981 em conjunto com o Ministério da Agricultura Português, através do Centro de Estudos Vitivinícolas do Douro, escolheram se na Quinta Nova as melhores exposições solares para o estudo de plantação de três castas: Tinta Roriz, Touriga Nacional e Touriga Franca.A Parcela 28 da Quinta Nova plantada com a casta Tinta Roriz, composta por 2650 pés e um declive de 25 localiza-se a uma altitude entre os 205 e os 210 metros. Esta casta demonstra bem o desafio vitivinícola e a persistência humana em preservar um Douroa antigo e autêntico. A austeridade da casta é notória em boca, mas ao mesmo tempo, somos seduzidos por uma sofisticação algo contemporânea que, aliada à vinha centenária (Parcela 21) origina, um lote que revela uma Referência no Douro português um vinho pleno de mineralidade, frutos azuis, rico em notas especiadas com uma estrutura firme e uma boca bem estreita. A elevada concentração, a densidade e a profundidade expressam bem a sua origem.
