Croft LBV wurde entwickelt, um der Nachfrage nach einem qualitativ hochwertigen Produkt gerecht zu werden, das als Alternative zum Sortiment an Vintage-Portweinen sofort und täglich konsumiert werden kann. Im Gegensatz zu einem typischen Vintage-Port, der nur zwei Jahre nach der Reifung in Holzfässern und dem Abschluss seiner Reifung in der Flasche abgefüllt wird, wird dieser LBV nach vier bis sechs Jahren Reifung in Flaschen abgefüllt und kann zum Zeitpunkt der Abfüllung konsumiert werden. Die Weine, die zum Verschnitt des Croft LBV verwendet wurden, stammten aus einem Vorrat, der aus einigen der besten vollmundigen roten Portweine bestand, die in dieser Ernte hergestellt wurden, aus Trauben, die auf dem Croft-Anwesen – Quinta da Roêda – sowie auf anderen berühmten Weingütern angebaut wurden Immobilien in den Gebieten Cima Corgo und Douro Superior. Diese Weine wurden in Holzfässern ausgebaut und nach sechs Jahren verschnitten. Der Mischprozess stellte sicher, dass der endgültige Wein ausgewogen und vollständig war und eine stilistische Kontinuität mit früheren Croft LBVs aufwies.
