Auf der Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo fand die bahnbrechende Studie zum monovarietalen Anbau in der Douro-Region statt. Zwischen 1979 und 1981 wurden in Zusammenarbeit mit dem portugiesischen Landwirtschaftsministerium durch das Douro Wine Studies Center die besten Sonneneinstrahlungen auf der Quinta Nova ausgewählt, um den Anbau von drei Rebsorten zu erforschen: Tinta Roriz, Touriga Nacional und Touriga Franca.
Parzelle 29, die der Rebsorte Touriga Nacional gewidmet ist, besteht aus 3300 Fuß und hat eine Neigung von 20 Grad, liegt auf einer Höhe zwischen 170 und 205 Metern. Diese Parzelle stellt ein einzigartiges Beispiel dar und spielt eine grundlegende Rolle in der Geschichte der Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo, da sie das Terroir voll zum Ausdruck bringt. Es ist eine echte Referenz im Douro, die zusammen mit dem jahrhundertealten Weinberg in Parcela 21 einen Wein mit einem äußerst eleganten, fast weiblichen Charakter ergibt, der im Kontrast zu einer intensiven Struktur aus saftigen und präzisen Tanninen steht. Die Schieferstruktur, die hohe Konzentration, das schmackhafte Profil und die violette Farbe spiegeln auf bemerkenswerte Weise die Natur der Rebsorte Touriga Nacional wider.
